I first of all just want to start off by saying thanks so much for all your videos. You've, put up for doing your best just to inspire people, to get closer to God and educating people of what it is to be a Christian and what the Bible has to say to us um.
So I personally watch a lot of your videos that has inspired me so much to build a better relationship with God and just be a better Christian. So my question for today is, I do read Bible and I do pray a lot, but what I really seem to battle with is trying to understand what the Bible has to say to me.
So when I read a passage just trying to understand what the message God is trying to give in that story or in that specific passage because of the high level of high level of language, that's being used, so yes, it would be greatly Appreciated, if you can just like do a video or answer me on facebook, Messenger or anything email me that would be great looking forward to hearing from you cheers bye.
Thank you for your question. Shanae in this video I'm gonna give you seven steps to help. You understand the Bible, but before I do that, I want to thank Doug Batchelor for sponsoring this. Video Doug Batchelor is one of my favorite Christian preachers and he also has his own YouTube channel with a lot of inspiring Christian videos.
Click on the card in the upper right-hand corner of the screen or the link in the video description to subscribe to the bachelor on YouTube. Now for the steps number one pray for understanding. Second, Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 says all Scripture is given by inspiration of God.
In other words, God is the author of the Bible. Now, even though God he used the men to write the Bible, he inspired what they wrote. Therefore, since God is the author of the Bible, doesn't, it make sense to ask him to help you understand it, and God wants to help.
You understand his word. Jesus said in John chapter 16, verse 13. However, when he the Spirit of Truth has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak and he will tell you things to come.
So it's, good practice, to pray before reading the Bible and ask God for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help you understand his word number 2. Read God's Word daily. Jesus said in Matthew, chapter 4, verse 4.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The Bible is compared to bread, which is a type of food. We eat physical food on a daily basis in order to grow and keep us strong.
We also need to grow in the knowledge of God's Word and have a strong relationship with him and that's. Where the Bible comes in reading, the Bible on a daily basis will accomplish that, for you, it's, spiritual food, but if you read the Bible only on occasion, your knowledge of God & # 39, s Word will be restricted and your relationship with God will be feeble in essence, if you only read the Bible periodically, you will be spiritually starving yourself.
Number 3 read the entire Bible. It's, important to read the entire Bible to get at least a general understanding of its contents. Now I know it can seem daunting, because the Bible is so big. The Old and New Testaments are made up of a combined 66 books containing approximately 1200 pages, and that's.
Probably one of the reasons that some Christians don't read through the entire Bible and they may read daily devotions or the Psalms or the Gospels or some parts of the New Testament. But if that's, how you read the Bible, you will act, knowledge of vital truths, sprinkled all throughout Scripture, and you may get a warped understanding of some Bible doctrines.
So take the time to read through the entire Bible. One good way to do this is by following a Bible reading plan I'll leave a link in the video description to a Bible. Reading plan from a Christian ministry called amazing facts.
Their Bible reading plan gives you a few chapters to read from the old and new testaments every day to help you read through the entire Bible in a year number four, let the Bible interpret itself. The Bible is its own interpreter.
The Apostle Paul wrote in first Corinthians, chapter 2, verse 13. These things we also speak, not in words which man's, wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
The Bible is a spiritual book and in order to understand it, we need to compare it to itself, for instance, in order to understand a Bible subject. Well, like salvation, it is necessary to gather together all of the Bible verses about salvation and compare them to get a well-rounded understanding of that.
Many false doctrines exist in Christianity, because people fail to do this. They take one or only a few verses about some Bible. Subject and draw a conclusion from that, when there are many more verses about that subject, so in that way, they develop a limited and twisted understanding of the Bible.
Another good example of allowing the Bible to interpret itself is when it comes to Bible prophecy. Books of prophecy, in the Bible like Daniel and revelation, are highly symbolic. Fortunately, the key to unlocking the mystery of these prophetic symbols lies within the Bible itself.
For instance, in the book of Revelation chapter 13, it mentions two beasts that deceive the world into receiving the mark of the beast. In the end times, a leopard like beast and a lamb like Beast one key that helps us to understand what these beasts represent is found in the Book of Daniel chapter 7, verse, 23 and speaking about a beast that was mentioned in the beginning of that chapter.
It says the fourth beast shall be a fourth Kingdom on earth, so there we have a clue that the two beasts mentioned in Revelation chapter 13 symbolized two kingdoms by the way, if you'd, like to learn more about end time, Bible prophecy check Out some of my prophecy videos, by clicking on the card on the screen number five apply what you learn understanding the Bible is not only a matter of prayer and using the right methods of study.
You also need to apply what you learn. Jesus said in John chapter: seven verse 17. If anyone will is to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority.
If you apply the truths of God's Word, as you study the Bible, God will bless you by giving you a deeper understanding of his word. In other words, follow what you know, and God will grant you more knowledge, number six get a good Bible.
There are many versions of the Bible out there. Some are paraphrase Bibles, word-for-word translations and thought forethought translations now. One thing I want to mention is that there is no perfect English translation of the Bible.
The original Bible was written primarily in Hebrew and Greek, and when you're, translating something from one language to another. It's impossible to perfectly convey everything, especially when you have something as big as the Bible.
Don't get me wrong. That doesn't mean that English translations of the Bible are bad or anything like that. Most English Bibles do a pretty good job at conveying what was written in the original languages while remaining doctrinally sound, but no one Bible is perfect.
However, there are some Bibles that are more superior to others, and I'll, be talking about that in a minute. Now, if you want to get a better understanding of the Bible of the first thing I would discourage, is using a paraphrase translation, at least as your main Study Bible.
A paraphrase translation is basically somebody rewriting the Bible in their own words, according to what they think. The Bible is trying to tell us in modern language to make it easier to read, so it's almost like their commentary of the Bible and if the person or people involved in that translation have a bias toward certain concepts or doctrines that's going to be reflected in their translation, one of the most popular paraphrased translations of the Bible is the message Bible by Eugene Peterson, and there are numerous websites criticizing how badly the message translates.
Some verses, I'm, not going to get into all of the bad examples of the message Bible, because that's, not what this video is about. But if you, google, the message Bible errors, you'll, see what I'm talking about now.
A paraphrase translations of the Bible can come in handy. Sometimes, when you're unclear about what your main study Bible is trying to tell you in a particular verse, then you can compare the verse in your main study Bible to a paraphrased translation and that may help you make a better sense of it.
But personally I don't, read any paraphrased translations at all. Ever now. Let me tell you a little bit about thought. Forethought translations of the Bible thought forethought. Translations of the Bible seek to express the meaning of each sentence or paragraph from the original language in simple, up-to-date English, without trying to translate every word like word-for-word translations do, which I'll talk about later.
So if you have a verse in the Greek New Testament, which has seven words, a thought for Thought, translation might change that to have five or ten words and in a different order with different grammar if it seems to make more sense in the English language.
This makes stop for Thought translations easier to read some thought for thought. Bible translations include the New International Version, the new American Bible and the New Revised Standard Version.
Now, although thought for Thought, translations are more reliable than paraphrased translations of the Bible. I wouldn't recommend using one as your main Study Bible. The reason being is because they are not a literal translation of the original Bible.
Therefore, they are not as close to what was written in the original. However, I do refer to thought for Thought Bibles. Sometimes, when I'm, having trouble understanding a verse in my main Study Bible, which is the New King James Version.
I just did this today as a matter of fact, Hebrews chapter 12, verse 4. In the New King, James Bible, reads, you have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. I was contemplating what that means exactly so I compared it to the New International Version which says in your struggle against sin.
You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood that helped me to understand that the individuals the book of Hebrews was written to did not yet get to the point where they were being martyred for their faith.
That was clearer in the New International Version. Now I'm gonna talk about word-for-word translations of the Bible, word-for-word translations attempt to keep the exact words and phrases of the original languages.
This is the most literal translation of the Bible. You can get some word-for-word Bible. Translations include the King, James Version new King, James Version, new American Standard Bible, English standard version and the Amplified Bible out of these versions.
I personally prefer the new King James Version. The reason being is because the new King James Version, along with the King James Version, is translated from a Greek version of the New Testament called the Textus Receptus or the received text.
The Textus Receptus was based on a family of Greek manuscripts called the Byzantine manuscripts, and these manuscripts have been in widespread circulation ever since early church history. This is significant because God promised that he would preserve his word.
Psalm chapter 12, verses 6 through 7, says the words of the Lord are pure words. Like silver tried in a furnace of Earth purified seven times, you shall keep them O Lord. You shall preserve them from this generation forever.
This is a problem for most modern translations of the Bible, because they are translated from a Greek New Testament called the critical text which includes two manuscripts called the Sinaiticus and the Vaticanus.
These two manuscripts were discovered fairly recently and have been out of circulation for a very long time. The Sinaiticus was discovered in 1844 in st. catherine's, monastery in a tract basket and has been out of use for an estimated fifteen hundred years, and the Vaticanus was guarded by the Vatican for over 400 years from 1448 to 1866.
It was out of use at that time. So can we consider the critical text, as God's Word, since parts of it fell out of use for so long? What do you think? Let me know in the comments section one thing's for sure it doesn't sound like a God, was preserving those manuscripts very well.
I mean there's, nothing in the Bible. That says, God would preserve his word for 300 years. Then it would fall out of use for 1,500 years and then be rediscovered as a matter of fact that's. Contrary to what Jesus said in Matthew, chapter 24, verse 35 stating heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away.
There are many more reasons why I think the King James and the New King James Bibles are superior to modern versions. But I'm gonna have to save those for a future video, because that is another subject in and of itself number 7 use Bible resources using Bible resources, like Bible study, guides books and listening to sermons, are all valid ways to help.
You understand the Bible and one place where you can get all that and more is the amazing facts. App amazing facts is one of my favorite Christian ministries and they have a free app, which includes sermons, Bible studies, Bible questions, answered a Christian blog and more click on the link in the video description to download the amazing facts, app on iOS or Android today.
To get a better understanding of the Bible, it is essential to pray for God's guidance and be willing to follow what you learn from his word. Setting aside some time every day and reading through the entire Bible will ensure that you become familiar with its contents, and you will also get a well-rounded understanding subjects using a literal Bible.
Translation like the King, James or the New King James Version will give you the confidence that what you are reading is close to what is written in the original Bible and Bible. Resources, like the amazing, fax app, can be helpful as well.
